Amaranthe Shined Their Light On LA Belesco Theater Februray 20, 2017

Amaranthe, Swedish Alternative Metal Masters, are well known for their unique ability to cross musical boundaries, as they integrate a mix of metal, pop, soaring vocals and impressive, memorable riffs throughout their musical palette. The force of the band’s music, generates a high energy momentum that comes across much heavier in their live show than on CD, creating an unrelenting amount of positive energy that is felt by all.  The last time we caught Amaranthe was in 2014 as they shared the stage with Within Temptation at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.  But tonight was all about Amaranthe as they headlined the sumptuous Belasco Theater in support of their latest LP “Maximalism”.

The Belasco has been recently renovated, making this venue a stunningly beautiful theater, loaded with an awesome sound system which was the perfect setting to showcase Amaranthe’s unique blend of vocals and the triple lead vocal attack team of Elize Ryd, Henrik Englund Wilhemsson and Chris Adam Hedman Sörbye .

The true power and intensity of this band can not be fully realized until you have witnessed them live.

The show began with a pulsating reverberation sound accented by flashing lights synchronized to pounding drums. In a flash the band burst onto the stage with the simultaneous explosion of light and sound to the frantic pace of Hunger from their 2011 self titled release Amaranthe . Hunger is a definitive showcase of the band’s technical prowess and incredible vocals for which they are so well known, with the three vocalists commanding the stage.

Their main set consisted of 12 songs which spanned the band’s 4 LP  catalogue including such greats as Hunger, 1.000.000 Light years, Fury, Drop Dead Cynical and a Stellar stand alone vocal performance by the amazing Elize Ryd on the ballad Endlessly.

Amaranthe’s Elize Ryd

Elize Ryd did not hesitate to connect with the fans as she reached out to the audience in the beginning of the set. All three vocalists entertained the audience as they ran the full length of the stage, engaging the audience as the entire crowd sang along to every song throughout the night.

In addition to the triple threat vocal attack team, Amaranthe consists of Olof Mörck on Guitar, filling the evening with shredding guitar solos, impressive riffs and haunting melodies, Johan Andreassen on Bass and Morten Løwe Sørensen on Drums.

With too many highlights of the show to mention, a definite highlight was the blistering drum solo of Morten Løwe Sørensen displaying the massive array of Morten’s shredding ability while always putting on a show for the crowd.

The night finished with a 4 song encore including a guest appearance by Heidi Shepherd of the Butcher Babies . Heidi joined the band on their last song for a brilliant version of Drop Dead Cynical from Amaranthe’s 2014 critically acclaimed Massive Addictive LP. This was a night of great music with an unforgettable performance by a band that you must see live to truly appreciate. Check out the Official Video of Drop Dead Cynical below:
