With the House of Blues in Los Angeles closing its doors on the metal scene forever, it was only fitting that the final metal show featured Anthrax, one of the Big 4 (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax).

An Anthrax show has always been an intense metal experience and this night was no exception. Anthrax played for 2+ hours covering their entire catalogue with Among the Living as the LP most represented. The band’s catalogue is so vast that they could have played until dawn without repeating a single song.

The audience thrashed, surfed, moshed and sang to every song including the fan favorites, Madhouse, Medusa, A Skeleton In The Closet, Indians and Antisocial. To say that there were many highlights would be an understatement as the whole night was a HIGHLIGHT!!!

The band sounded as tight as ever and as if they are ready to kill it for another 30 yAnthrax-HouseOfBlues-LosAngeles_CA-20150729-RocBoyum-014ears.

Scott Ian, Charlie Benante and Frank Bello laid down absolutely head crushing rhythms, while new guitarist Jonathan Donais, formally with (Shadows Fall) possessed lighting fast fingers that shredded every solo. It was good to see Joey Belladonna fronting Anthrax again with pipes that are in top form and his mesmerizing stage presence had him running across the stage from side to side, reaching and connecting with the audience.

At a couple different points in the show Joey Belladonna and Scott Ian thanked the audience for sticking with the band for all these years. Joey went on to say that he couldn’t believe the band had been around for 30 years, “that’s a hell of a long time to keep banging your head!” Joey also mentioned that this was the final night for Metal at the House of Blues Sunset, “So Let’s make it a night to remember!” The manic audience responded with a frantic roar! Just as the frenzied crowd thought the night could night get any better, Chuck D joined Anthrax on stage for the song Bring The Noise for what Scott Ian described as a massive category 5 hurricane version of the song, which did indeed blow the roof off the House Of Blues.

As this historic metal night came to a close, the band went into Antisocial which had the entire crowd singing, screaming, moshing and crowd surfing. Anthrax was the perfect finale to the final night of HOB LA METAL! With bands like Anthrax hitting the stage this hard every night, Metal is alive and well, and not going away anytime soon!

If you get the chance, be sure to check out Anthrax live, as you do not want to miss this show and stay tuned as they’re working on a new LP. For more details on their tour and upcoming LP visit the band’s website at http://anthrax.com/
