French metal legends Gojira opened for Korn on 10-03-24 in Phoenix, AZ to a capacity crowd of 20,000 plus fans. The band consisting of Vocalist and guitarist-Joe Duplantier, Drummer-Mario Duplantier, Lead and Rhythm Guitar-Christian Andreu and bassist-Jean-Michel Labadie, ignited the stage from the very beginning, unleashing a barrage of fiery explosions, synchronized strobe lights, and columns of smoke that perfectly matched their intense sound. Their performance in Phoenix was undeniably the heaviest of the night, with fans reveling with every blistering note. At the helm of the band is guitarist and vocalist Joe Duplantier, whose commanding stage presence, flawless guitar skills, and aggressive vocal delivery captivated the audience during their entire set. Joe Duplantier propelled the band through a 14-song set that raised the bar and set it high for progressive metal bands everywhere.

A special acknowledgment goes out to Gojira, as they are the first metal band ever to kick off an Olympic ceremony. The 2024 Olympics were held in beautiful Paris, France with Gojira playing high above the crowd with each member performing outside a different window of Paris’ Conciergerie Palace with fire spraying everywhere! Metal fans are incredibly lucky that the French had the courage and balls to start the 2024 Olympics with a metal band such as Gojira and the band put on a blazing live performance to over 1 billion people worldwide that will long be remembered in history; Vive les Français!!!

Kicking off their set with the song “Born for One Thing” really sent the Phoenix crowd into a frenzy, clearly showcasing that the Duplantier brothers and Gojira are indeed “Born for One Thing.”….Shredding metal music!

Gojira delivered a shredding performance of nearly an hour for the Phoenix audience, showcasing stellar metal music drawn from four of their seven studio albums, with their latest release, Fortitude from 2021, being the most prominently featured.

As the show unfolded, audience members who had never witnessed a live Gojira performance, quickly became aware of the band’s mind blowing technical precision and unrestrained raw energy. Their songs frequently focus on themes of environmental awareness, making them far from your typical metal band!

Visually, Gojira delivered an unforgettable experience that featured stunning pyrotechnics, fantastic strobe lights,  a backdrop and drum riser filled with mesmerizing, and mind-altering video visuals.

Their performance concluded as suddenly as it began, culminating in a powerful finish of their song “Amazonia” from their latest album, Fortitude. Upon the song’s conclusion, all the band members gathered at the front of the stage, with drummer Mario Duplantier shouting into the mic, “make some FN noise,” prompting an enthusiastic response from the crowd. Frontman Joe Duplantier was seen tossing out guitar picks, while his brother, Mario Duplantier, threw his drumsticks into the audience. Joe Duplantier expressed his gratitude to the Phoenix crowd, igniting one last cheer by asking, “are you ready for Korn???”
