On March 1st, 2025, legendary guitarist Jerry Cantrell, known for his work with Alice In Chains, captivated a sold-out crowd at the Nile Theater in Mesa, Arizona. The venue was filled to capacity, with fans stretching all the way to the entrance, creating a scene that was both rare and truly impressive.
Given the incredible turnout for this event, it’s evident that Cantrell has firmly demonstrated that the grunge and metal music of the ’90s is still vibrant and relevant. Throughout the concert, enthusiastic fans could be heard cheering, “We love you, Jerry!” and “You guys are FN killer!”
Cantrell and his band delivered a phenomenal 15-song set, which included a three-song encore that featured a brilliant blend of Cantrell’s originals and classic Alice In Chains hits, leaving a lasting impression on the Mesa audience.
Many fans were thrilled to discover how Cantrell and his band would reinterpret the AIC songs, given that the vocals played a crucial role in the band’s signature sound. They certainly did not let anyone down! Cantrell’s group captured the essence of AIC flawlessly, performing all the hits of the night, including: “Them Bones,” “Man In The Box,” “Hate to Feel,” “Would,” and “Rooster.”
The night began with “Psychotic Break” from Cantrell’s Degradation Trip Volume 1 LP. Its haunting lyrics and melodies perfectly set the tone for a nostalgic dive into the 90’s style music scene.
The next trio of songs kicked off with the AIC classic “Them Bones,” followed by a powerful double feature from his latest album, I Want Blood, with “Verified” and “Afterglow.” This blend of several solo LP tracks interspersed with AIC hits defined the concert, providing everyone in the audience with tunes to enthusiastically pump their fists to.
Cantrell’s latest material was truly impressive, resonating even more powerfully in a live performance than it does on the album.
