Signs of the Swarm Concert Review Nile Theater Mesa AZ 9-16-24
Concert Review and Photos By Roc Boyum
A Tuesday night at the Nile Theater created the ideal atmosphere for the Decade of the Swarm Tour, celebrating Signs Of The Swarm’s 10-year anniversary as a band. This tour features a powerful lineup of brutal deathcore and metalcore acts, including four exceptional bands. Headliners Signs Of The Swarm are joined by Cane Hill, Ov Sulfer, 156/Silence, and A Wake In Providence, all for an incredible price of just $25.00.
This 30-day tour is as intense as the music these bands deliver. The tour kicked off on August 29th in eastern Canada and the journey will take them down the East Coast, through the Midwest, and all the way to Los Angeles, before concluding their shredding path in Ohio on September 29th.
The opening acts, Cane Hill, Ov Sulfur, 156/Silence, and A Wake In Providence delivered blistering performances that set the stage ablaze with their explosive sounds. Each band showcased their own raw interpretation of metalcore and deathcore genres. On this Tuesday night, Mesa, AZ, hosted a crazed lively crowd that struck the perfect balance between the amount of people that were there and the energy to sustain explosive circle pits.
Signs Of The Swarm:
SOTS took the stage with a spectacular display of backlit strobe lights, unleashing their signature deathcore wall of sound. Vocalist David Simonich commanded the stage with his power and presence, continually urging the crowd to react explosively, while the band erupted with a sound that was somewhat distorted. Was their sound distortion a result of overloading the venue’s PA system, or simply the band’s overwhelming sound? Throughout the performance, Simonich persistently called for “Mesa” to make some noise, ignite a raging pit, and for the audience to truly express themselves.
SOTS offered a distinct experience that set them apart from the other bands on the lineup. Their rhythms featured sharp bursts of staccato blasts, perfectly synchronized with backlit strobe lights, resulting in a brutal machine gun-style attack on the visual and auditory senses. A word of warning! if you are sensitive to strobe lighting, you may feel overwhelmed and punch drunk after just the first song.
The band delivered an incendiary set, with their sound and visual impact maintaining intensity throughout the entire night. Simonich persistently urged the audience to join in the ongoing and swirling circle pit.
If you’re a fan of metalcore and deathcore, then this Decade of the Swarm Tour is absolutely for you!
Get out, raise your fist and jump into the pit; the fun is awaiting and calling for you to keep the fire on this tour burning.
